Jan Smital (1896–1955) was a Czech academic painter born in Loštice. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Professor Vratislav Nechleba. His work focused mainly on landscape painting, figurative compositions, and portraiture. He undertook study trips to Algeria, along the Black Sea coast, and to Subcarpathian Ruthenia, and from 1946 lived and worked in Olomouc.
