Karel Poláček (1892–1944) was a Czech writer and journalist, best known for his humorous novels. His most celebrated work, Bylo nás pět (We Were Five), depicts childhood life in a small Czech town. Of Jewish origin, Poláček perished in a Nazi concentration camp.
