Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) was a German composer and pianist, one of the most influential figures in the history of Western music. He bridged the Classical and Romantic eras, producing works of extraordinary range and depth. His Symphony No. 6 in F major, "Pastoral", premiered in 1808, is a programmatic work evoking scenes of nature.
