Ödön von Horváth (1901–1938) was an Austro-Hungarian playwright and novelist who wrote in German. He is best known for his interwar plays such as Tales from the Vienna Woods and Faith, Hope and Charity, which offer a sharp critique of petit-bourgeois mentality and social hypocrisy. He died in Paris, struck by a falling branch during a storm.
