Karel Kryl was a Czech singer-songwriter, poet and composer whose work became a symbol of resistance against the communist regime. His song "Bratříčku, zavírej vrátka" (1968) brought him widespread fame. After the Soviet invasion he emigrated and broadcast on Radio Free Europe, returning to Czechoslovakia after 1989.
