We Are All Actors

"We Are All Actors, or What If" is an original play by the Divadýlko na dlani theatre from Mladá Boleslav, inspired by Václav Holance's novella "Actors". The adaptation and direction are handled by the company's principal, Petr Matoušek, who won an award for the screenplay and received an honourable mention for direction at the regional festival Wintrův Rakovník 2018.

The action takes place in one of the leading Czech theatres in the late 1950s, where Goethe's Faust is being rehearsed. The production offers audiences an unconventional perspective through alternative history: on one hand we follow the intrigues behind the scenes of the communist regime, on the other hand in a Nazi scenario where the Greater German Reich won its campaign across Europe and the Protectorate remains part of the empire. The play poses the question: what would have happened if history had taken a different turn. The cast consists of members of the Divadýlko na dlani theatre.
