A retrospective of graphic works under the patronage of Emy Bornová commemorates ten years since the death of Adolf Born — the author of hundreds of illustrations you know from the stories Mach and Šebestová and Jules Verne adaptations.
The exhibition Journeys with Surprises showcases works set in Venice, Africa, Turkish harems, and the era of Rudolf II — alongside circus performances, clever pets, and weary beasts. Each image delights with a subtle wit, an unexpected situation, or a character stepping out of the narrative.
Born's humor is never superficial, and his drawings retain a lightness and detachment that resonate across generations.
