🎤 About: Karel Hynek Mácha

Karel Hynek Mácha (1810–1836) was the foremost Czech Romantic poet. His masterpiece, the lyric-epic poem Máj (May, 1836), is a cornerstone of Czech literature, blending vivid nature imagery with themes of love and existential despair. Mácha died at the age of 26, shortly after the poem's publication.

🎤 About: Julius Mařák

Julius Mařák (1832–1899) was a Czech landscape painter and one of the most prominent figures of 19th-century Czech art. Trained in Vienna and Munich, he is known for his romantic depictions of forests, ponds, and the Bohemian countryside. He also taught at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, influencing a generation of Czech painters.

Antonín Mánes (1784–1843) was a Czech landscape painter and the founding figure of the Mánes artistic family. He was a pioneer of Romantic landscape painting in Bohemia and the father of painters Josef and Quido Mánes. His works depict the Czech countryside with the Romantic sensibility characteristic of the early 19th century.

Josef Mánes (1820–1871) was a Czech painter and one of the most prominent figures of 19th-century Czech art. Working in the Romantic and National Revival tradition, he painted landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes. He is best known for the calendar medallion on Prague's Old Town Hall astronomical clock.

🎤 About: Bedřich August Piepenhagen

Bedřich August Piepenhagen (1791–1858) was a landscape painter of German origin who worked in Bohemia. He was a representative of Romantic painting, known especially for his depictions of forest scenery, rocky landscapes, and castle ruins. His works are held in major Czech gallery collections.
