Don't Be Afraid, Breathe, Work Magic

A full-length documentary film "Don't Be Afraid, Breathe, Work Magic" (directed by Dan Svátek, Czech Republic, 2026), screened as part of the Cinema for Seniors series. The film offers an intimate and deeply candid portrait of musician David Stypka, a native of Frýdek-Místek, who died in 2021 from pancreatic cancer and COVID-19. The documentary's title draws from the albums of this exceptional singer-songwriter and composer. The film reveals his approach to music, life, other people, and his own difficult fate. Stypka is remembered in the film by members of his band Bandjeez (Matěj Drabina, Maro Zeman, Pavel Sotoniak), his family, close collaborators — publisher Martin Červinka and music producer Martin Ledvina — as well as fellow musicians Ewa Farna, Kateřina Marie Tichá, Mirai Navrátil, and Jindra Polák from the band Jelen. The documentary is not merely a story about music — it is a story about a person, his passion, fragility, and the strength that endures in his songs to this day. Duration: 87 minutes.
