We Are All Actors... or What If

"We Are All Actors... or What If" is an original play by the Divadýlko na dlani theatre from Mladá Boleslav, inspired by Václav Holan's novella "The Actors". The adaptation was created by the company's principal, Petr Matoušek, who won an award for the screenplay and received an honourable mention for direction at the regional festival Wintrův Rakovník 2018. The action takes place in one of the leading Czech theatres in the late 1950s, where Goethe's "Faust" is being rehearsed. The play works with alternative history: the audience follows the twists and turns first in the backdrop of the communist regime, then in a Nazi version where the Greater German Reich won its campaign across Europe and the Protectorate remains part of the empire. The production offers reflection on what would have happened if history had taken a different path. The cast consists of members of Divadýlko na dlani.
