The Premyslids. A Ruling Dynasty and Its Era
Národní muzeum, Prague
Vstupenka je platná pro celý Muzejní komplex
The exhibition "The Premyslids – A Ruling Dynasty and Its Era" is on display from April 24 to October 15, 2026 in the ground floor of the Historic Building of the National Museum on Wenceslas Square. It is the largest historical exhibition of recent decades in Czechia and one of the most significant projects of its kind in Europe. In one place, it brings together more than 900 extraordinary artifacts from nearly seventy institutions from Czechia and abroad. The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Prague Castle Administration and is under the patronage of President Petr Pavel. Among the most significant artifacts are a Romanesque sarcophagus of the so-called Saint Longinus, displayed outside the Vyšehrad walls for the first time, a royal crown from Silesian Środa, textiles from the tomb of Saint Ludmila, burial jewels of Premysl II Otakar, his sword, and the personal ring of Premysl I Otakar. The exhibition is divided into four thematically and color-coded sections (blue, green, red, black) and guides visitors from the dynasty's origins through the princely and royal eras to the Premyslids' legacy in the Luxembourg period. The exhibition tells history as a gripping narrative of power, ambition, family conflicts, and transformations of the world – from the legend of Libuše and Přemysl to the dynasty's end through the murder of Wenceslas III in Olomouc in 1306. Open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is valid for the entire Museum complex.
