Exhibition "With the ULUV Code"
Národní muzeum, Prague
The exhibition "With the ULUV Code" at the Ethnographic Museum of the National Museum (open from April 2, 2026) presents the origins and transformations of the Centre for Folk Art Production (ULUV), founded in 1945 by decree of President Edvard Beneš. The exhibition illustrates the organization's crucial role in preserving, supporting, and professionally interpreting folk creativity in the post-war period, and shows how ULUV adapted to political and economic changes after 1948. Through cooperative principles, the organization managed to preserve numerous traditional production techniques and motifs. Visitors can explore a diverse range of products presented and sold in Krásná jizba shops — from furniture and textiles to decorative and festive items — as well as expert documentation focused on folk art, architecture, and traditional costume culture. The exhibition includes examples of patterns, recipes, and techniques demonstrating the breadth of ULUV's activities. The project was created in collaboration between the National Museum and the National Museum in the Open Air in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm as part of the NAKI MK ČR programme and is complemented by an accompanying programme featuring workshops, lectures, and film screenings.
