This exhibition celebrates the fifty-year history of Cinema Hvězda in Přerov – an architectural gem from the 1970s that served as both a modern city cinema and a civil defence nuclear shelter. The building was completed in 1975 and officially opened on 21 December 1976. The nuclear shelter is capable of accommodating up to 900 residents in case of emergency. The exhibition opening takes place on 14 May 2026 at 17:00 at Přerov Castle (Komenský Museum in Přerov), while the exhibition itself runs from 15 May to 15 November 2026. Visitors can view historic projectors from all Přerov cinemas and projection equipment prepared in collaboration with the Komenský Museum and Meopta company. The exhibition traces the role of cinema in the life of industrial Přerov – from the time when it was a natural centre for shared leisure activities and offered premiere titles, children's and foreign films, to the present day. Since the 1990s, Hvězda has been the only functioning cinema in the city and today features a state-of-the-art 4K laser projector, 7.1 surround sound, and one of the largest panoramic screens in the country (16.5 × 7 m). The anniversary celebrations continue throughout 2026 and include concerts, discussions, a themed photo booth, retro merchandise, and a planned private tour of the nuclear shelter. At the end of the year, an exhibition of portraits of Czech actors and actresses by photographer Marek Novotný is planned at the City Gallery on Horní náměstí.
