Aleš Růžička graduated from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts in 2002, where he studied in the studios of František Hodonský, Antonín Střížek, and Michael Rittstein. His painting is an integral part of everyday life – he applies colour in thick layers that sometimes create an almost three-dimensional impression, yet he remains faithful to the traditional flat surface of canvas. The exhibition at Galerie Prostor 228 in Liberec presents the characteristic gestural and impulsive work of this South Bohemian painter, whose central themes are still lifes and nature. Růžička works systematically in cycles and series – he has explored, for example, motifs of parks and castle gardens, still lifes with plants and everyday household objects, or the series "Tables" capturing his father's "home altar" with photographs of deceased family members. The flower motif runs through his entire body of work. Galerie Prostor 228 is a respected Liberec gallery run by the association PROSTOR 228, which focuses on systematic collaboration with contemporary Czech artists.
