The Importance of Being Philip
Studio DVA divadlo, Prague
Boredom is chased away in different ways by friends Jack and Algernon—they invent an imaginary Philip. While Jack is a respectable gentleman in the English countryside, he transforms into the worldly Philip in the hustle and bustle of the city. His friend Algy finds this a brilliant way to enjoy life and decides to impersonate someone else too. But when both young men fall in love with two well-brought-up girls, everything becomes tangled. Against the backdrop of snippets from Oscar Wilde's real life, framed within lighthearted cabaret sketches, you will see his wittiest and most successful comedy. The production is directed by Šimon Caban, who also contributed to the set design and text adaptation. Cast: Roman Štabrňák, Jan Nedbal / Václav Jílek, Ivana Chýlková / Zuzana Mauréry, Saša Rašilov, Simona Lewandowska, Petra Kosková, Eva Leinweberová, Michal Slaný and Kateřina Marie Fialová. Premiered on 13 December 2025. Performance length: 2 hours 25 minutes including intermission. In keeping with the artistic vision, cigarettes are smoked in the production. Recommended from age 14.
