"What You Were, We Were Too..."
Muzeum Jindřichohradecka, Jindřichův Hradec
The exhibition "What You Were, We Were Too..." is the first of two archaeological exhibitions prepared by the Jindřichův Hradec Museum for 2026. It is installed in the museum's conference hall at Štítného Street 124/I and will be accessible from 3 March to 31 May 2026. It focuses on the results of a rescue archaeological excavation of a vanished parish cemetery at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Kardašova Řečice, which took place in 2021–2022. Visitors will see primarily early modern devotional objects from the excavated human graves, as well as high and late medieval ceramics documenting the earliest phases of the city's development. The exhibition's curator, archaeologist Jan Kocina, emphasizes that these objects are above all silent witnesses to the personal stories of people who once lived and were buried here. Immediately after this exhibition closes, a second exhibition titled "The Forgotten Stone Age" will open from 2 June 2026 to 6 January 2027, taking visitors back more than 6,000 years to the Neolithic period and presenting research on a Neolithic settlement near Plačovice. The new season at the Jindřichův Hradec Museum begins on 3 March 2026.
