Deus ex mikrofona with Rosťa Novák
Jatka78, Prague
Deus ex mikrofona is a series of improvisational performances by the ensemble My kluci, co spolu chodíme, in which they encounter different guests in the role of Director. Before the audience's eyes, communication unfolds between the performers and the embodiment of their "god" — a director, choreographer, or other leading artistic figure. As the title suggests, the performance draws parallels between the roles of director and deity: the director's voice represents a higher power that observes and controls the performers' actions without physically appearing on stage. A theatre rehearsal can become improvisation and vice versa — the boundaries between the prepared and the spontaneous blur. With the Director, we enter a vulnerable situation: he does not usually direct in front of an audience, and the ensemble is accustomed to working without authority. None of the participants know what to expect from the other. In this game, it is unclear who sets the rules or what they are, let alone whose turn it is. The ensemble wants to embody the work of the director, who is normally "invisible," and point to the paradox of creation — namely, the (im)possibility of directing an improvised performance. In this edition of the series, the role of Director will be taken by Rosťa Novák (Rostislav Novák Jr.), artistic director and co-founder of Jatka78 and founder of the ensemble Cirk La Putyka. The result is always unpredictable and unrepeatable.
