Fariduddin Attar (c. 1145–1221) was a Persian Sufi poet and mystic. His most celebrated work is the allegorical poem The Conference of the Birds (Mantiq at-Tajr), in which birds undertake a spiritual journey in search of enlightenment. Attar had a profound influence on later Persian mystical poetry, including the work of Rumi.
