Josef Dobrovský (1753–1829) was a Czech philologist, historian, and founder of modern Slavic studies. He is best known for his scholarly work on Old Church Slavonic and Czech grammar, including Institutiones linguae Slavicae dialecti veteris. He is regarded as a central figure of the Czech National Revival.
