Josef Váchal (1884–1969) was a Czech graphic artist, painter, writer, and mystic. He is best known for his expressive woodcuts, letterpress books, and illustrations dealing with occultism, demonology, and the Bohemian landscape. His most celebrated work is Krvavý román (Bloody Novel), which he wrote, illustrated, and typeset himself. His work had a lasting influence on Czech graphic art of the 20th century.
