Joy Division was a British post-punk band from Manchester, active from 1976 to 1980. Their dark, minimalist sound — driven by Ian Curtis's distinctive baritone and brooding lyrics — became hugely influential on post-punk and gothic rock. Their debut album "Unknown Pleasures" (1979) and the single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" remain iconic. After Curtis's death in 1980, the remaining members reformed as New Order.
