Walking Tour of Ďáblický Cemetery
Ďáblický hřbitov, Prague
Ďáblický Cemetery lies on the border between Prague's districts of Ďáblice and Střížkov. It is the second-largest cemetery in Prague by area and a world unique — the only Cubist cemetery in the world. It houses an honour burial dedicated to the second and third (anti-communist) resistance, and along the northern wall are mass shaft graves containing victims of Nazi and communist terror.
In 2015, the Forest of Remembrance was opened within the cemetery grounds, the first natural burial ground in the Czech Republic, where the ashes of the deceased are placed at memorial trees. In 2023, the Meadow Cemetery was added, the first ecological cemetery in Czechia, where the deceased are buried in ecological coffins on a flower meadow without traditional gravestones.
The tour will be led by Kateřina Svobodová, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Participants meet at the main gate (Sídliště Ďáblice stop). Children up to and including 12 years old have free entry without registration. The event is organized by the Prague municipal authority for Cemeteries and Funeral Services.
