Karel Hvížďala is the author of numerous book interviews with renowned personalities, including Karel Schwarzenberg, Arnošt Lustig, Jiří Suchý, Václav Havel, Magda Vašáryová, Pavel Landovský, and his close friend Milan Kundera. At this discussion, he will reminisce about these interviews and encounters.

Karel Hvížďala has been a reporter for the weekly magazine Mladý svět since 1966, and later an editor at Albatros publishing house. In 1978 he emigrated to West Germany, where he collaborated with Radio Free Europe, Deutsche Welle, and the BBC. In May 1990 he returned to Prague and became chief reporter for the daily newspaper Mladá fronta. He was chairman of the board of MAFRA publishing house, and in autumn 1994 he co-founded the magazine Týden and served as its editor-in-chief. He is the author of books of interviews, prose works, radio plays, books about media, and essays.
