Tin Figure Casting Workshop

A traditional crafts workshop at Šmeralův statek – the Centre of Traditional Folk Culture in Třebíč – led by Jiří Grégr from Velká Bíteš, who has been making tin figures since 1992. His company FGL specializes in hand-crafted tin souvenirs based on the traditions and techniques of 18th–19th century tinworkers. Workshop participants will learn the entire production process: from mold preparation through casting the tin alloy to finishing and painting the figure. The work uses a propane-butane burner, a sheet with molds, and a ladle for melting tin. The most demanding part is modeling and subsequent painting – fine details are even done with a needle. The workshop lasts 3–4 hours. Šmeralův statek was opened to the public after renovation in 2019, and its mission is to introduce the public to folk traditions through workshops, fairs, and educational programs.
