Turtle Day at Prague Zoo 2026
Zoologická zahrada hl.m.Prahy, Prague
World Turtle Day and celebration of the International Day of Biological Diversity at Prague Zoo takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026. This year's theme is wetlands — the world's most biologically diverse ecosystems. The lecture programme runs from 9:30 to 16:00 at the Prague Zoo Education Centre. The lecture block includes, for example: 9:30 Nataša Velenská and Petr Velenský (Prague Zoo) on the return of "extinct" Floreana giant tortoises to Floreana Island after 180 years; 10:00 Mgr. Hana V. Svobodová (We Protect Sea Turtles) on new developments in sea turtle conservation; 10:20 MgA. David Vašina on experiences from travels in search of sea turtles; 11:30 Veronika Komárňanská on the morphometry of the radiated tortoise. Throughout the day, guided feeding sessions and turtle encounters are available in various pavilions. The event is part of regular zoo admission and does not require a separate ticket. Prague Zoo houses dozens of turtle species and subspecies, including the rare Bengal elongated tortoise (the only location outside Asia) in the Chambal Pavilion and giant and elephant tortoises in the Large Tortoise Pavilion.
