David Macháč – PRIVATE PARADISES (Allotment Gardeners as a Phenomenon)

The opening of photographer David Macháč's photographic exhibition titled PRIVATE PARADISES – Allotment Gardeners as a Phenomenon takes place on 19 March 2026 at 17:00 at Futureum in Ostrava (Dolní Vítkovice area). The exhibition is organized by SOBIC, z.ú., in collaboration with curator Petr Hrubeš. The project continues Macháč's long-term photographic series dedicated to the phenomenon of allotment gardening – vibrant photographs capture the distinctive world of Czech allotment colonies and their inhabitants. Macháč has been devoted to this subject since 2006 and the project remains open-ended. The photographer documents people from the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Luxembourg and other countries who spend considerable time in their allotment colonies. The images reveal diverse connections between the garden space and its user – each garden is unique, as is the person who tends it. After the opening, the exhibition will be accessible during Futureum's regular hours: Tue–Thu 9:00–17:00, Fri–Sat 10:00–18:00, Sun 13:00–18:00. Futureum is housed in reconstructed industrial buildings of a coal hopper and mill, which have been a national cultural monument since 2002.
