Holešovická tržnice, Prague

Merkádo is the largest Latin American festival in the Czech Republic, held annually at Holešovická tržnice since 2014. The 2026 edition takes place on June 12–13. The festival features over fifty stalls with typical Latin American products — from cocoa, chilli, and exotic fruits to original textiles, jewelry, and crafts by artisans from Central and South America. Visitors can taste traditional food prepared by Latin Americans living in the Czech Republic: Argentine choripán, Peruvian anticuchos, Colombian empanadas, and Mexican tacos, complemented by South American wines, coffee, and maté. The cultural programme includes demonstrations of traditional dances — Cuban salsa, Argentine tango, Peruvian marinera, Brazilian capoeira and carnival — and dance workshops for children and adults. Saturday's highlight is a spectacular parade of masks and Brazilian drums led by Tam Tam Batucada, departing from Štvanice footbridge and heading to Holešovická tržnice at 5 p.m. Children can enjoy art workshops, painting indigenous ornaments, Mexican piñatas, and hammocks. The festival is complemented by lectures on sociocultural, political, and environmental topics and documentary screenings, in collaboration with the Centre for Ibero-American Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.
