The Love That Remains (Icelandic: Ástin sem eftir er) is the fourth feature film by Icelandic director Hlynur Pálmason (A White, White Day, Godland), who also wrote and shot the film as cinematographer. On the Icelandic highlands, we follow a five-member family — fisherman Magnús and artist Anna — whose relationship quietly fades as they struggle to raise their children together. The film was made in stages over more than 8 years with the director's own family: his children actually appear in the roles of the family's kids, alongside Panda, a loyal border collie who received the unofficial Palm Dog Award at the Cannes Film Festival for best canine acting performance. Melancholy naturally intertwines with gentle magical realism and humour; the juxtaposition of pain and absurdity creates an image both light and deeply moving. The film had its world premiere at Cannes and entered Czech cinemas on 14 May 2026 in Aerofilms distribution. The screening at Edison Filmhub is part of the Tady Vary 2025/26 project — a film season with a subscription programme for 10 festival evenings. Film length: 109 minutes.
