Piemule and Old Believers

Two medium-length documentaries by director Jana Ševčíková return to cinema screens in digitally remastered form. Piemule takes us into Romanian Banat, where a Czech minority has preserved its language, traditions, and way of life across generations despite isolation and historical upheaval. Old Believers follows a community of Russian believers who rejected church reforms and retreated into isolation in the Danube Delta. Both films share a thoughtful, respectful perspective and contemplative rhythm, in which landscape plays as vital a role as the people themselves.
