Old Masters II: Exhibition at Šternberský Palace
Národní galerie - Šternberský palác, Prague
from 120 Kč · ≈ 4.9 €
The Old Masters II collection exhibition at Šternberský Palace continues the historical tradition of presenting masterworks in this building, which housed the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art from 1811 to 1871, the predecessor of today's National Gallery Prague. The exhibition complements the Old Masters installation at Schwarzenberg Palace – together visitors can see over 600 masterworks from antiquity to classicism. The new installation presents works in the context of their creation and highlights the major centers of artistic activity in Europe. It showcases an exceptional collection of Italian painting from the 14th and 15th centuries, including the so-called Italian primitives (Siena, Florence, Venice, Padua), followed by Renaissance and Baroque painting (Alessandro Allori, Giandomenico Tiepolo). Also represented are collections of Netherlandish, Flemish, and Dutch painting from the 15th–18th centuries (Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Gerard ter Borch). Central European artistic production is represented by Nuremberg painting and works from the Rhineland (Hans Baldung Grien, Hans Dürer), as well as works by German and Austrian painters from the 17th–18th centuries (Georg Flegel, Paul Troger). A smaller collection of French and Spanish art stands out for the quality of individual masterpieces (Simon Vouet, Pierre Mignard, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Francisco José Goya). The project includes artifacts from the Asian Art Collection in the Chinese Cabinet. Curatorial team: Martina Jandlová Sošková, Olga Kotková, Lucie Němečková. The exhibition is open Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00.
