Petschkova vila - Muzeum literatury (PNP), Prague

The exhibition "Lustig: Witness to the Collapse of Humanity" is on display at the Museum of Literature in Prague from May 6 to July 19, 2026. It was prepared by the Monument of National Literature and the Arnošt Lustig Foundation to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world-renowned writer, journalist, screenwriter, and Holocaust survivor. The exhibition's concept chronologically presents key milestones in Lustig's life – from his imprisonment in the Theresienstadt ghetto, through Auschwitz and Buchenwald, his escape from a death transport, to his participation in the Prague Uprising. It focuses on the events and personal experiences that fundamentally shaped his literary work. The exhibition traces a compelling biographical arc while also examining the author's works in detail – novels and novellas such as "Diamonds of the Night", "A Prayer for Katerina Horovitzova", "Dita Saxova", and "Beautiful Green Eyes", many of which became the basis for films of the Czech New Wave. It explores what Lustig's work meant both to him and to audiences from the 1960s to the present day. The Arnošt Lustig Fund and Archive will also be opened. The accompanying programme includes author readings, film screenings, and educational workshops. Lustig's 100th birthday was recognized by the 43rd UNESCO General Conference as a significant anniversary for the period 2026–2027.
