An interactive workshop for secondary and high school students held at the Janáček Theatre in Brno. Participants will learn about the opera genre, the process of creating a production, how the theatre operates, and the professions that work in theatre. The programme answers questions such as: Where did opera originate? What is a libretto? Who is a stage inspector? What must a set designer know? There will also be a taste of opera singing. Participants will take part in several interconnected activities that allow them to peek behind the scenes of how an opera theatre functions and the challenges it faces. The workshop includes a short tour of the Janáček Theatre. The programme lasts 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the number of participants. Price: 2,000 CZK for up to 20 students, 100 CZK for each additional student; teacher supervision is free. Minimum capacity is 20 students, maximum 30 students. Students should wear comfortable clothing — during the programme they sit on the floor, engage in creative activities, and do breathing exercises. To book, contact the theatre's opera lecturer: Klára Mazlová, mazlova@ndbrno.cz, +420 607 089 755.
