The twenty-fourth Jazz Evening in honour of Karel Krautgartner takes place on Friday, 5 June 2026 at 19:30 in the conference centre of Mikulov Castle. Jan Smigmator arrives with his eighteen-member big band, and the exclusive guest is American tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton. This is the first of only two Czech performances by Smigmator this year — the second will take place in December at Sono Centru in Brno. The Baroque castle on the rocky Castle Hill is the landmark of Mikulov, and its conference centre offers an intimate setting for the jazz evening. Admission is free.

About the venue: Zámek Mikulov

The baroque castle perched on the rocky Castle Hill is the landmark of Mikulov. Originally a medieval fortress granted to the Liechtenstein family in 1249, it passed to the Dietrichsteins in the 16th century, who gave it its current baroque form after a fire in 1719. Rebuilt after burning down in 1945, it now houses the Regional Museum with permanent exhibitions on history, viticulture and the Dietrichstein dynasty. A highlight is the giant Renaissance wine barrel of 1,014 hl capacity kept in the castle cellars.
