Love's Labour's Lost - Summer Shakespeare Festival 2026

The Summer Shakespeare Festival opens its 2026 Ostrava season with the comedy Love's Labour's Lost, performed on three evenings – July 20, 21, and 22 at 8:30 PM at Silesian Ostrava Castle. The entire festival continues until August 10 and offers a total of 20 performances of eight different productions under the open sky. In Love's Labour's Lost, we see a group of four noble men who solemnly swear to devote three years of their lives to asceticism, abstinence, and study – but their resolve crumbles the moment a French princess arrives in the city with her ladies-in-waiting. Shakespeare in this comedy of manners showcases a play with words, their meanings and duality, full of puns and surprising metaphors. The Summer Shakespeare Festival has been held in Ostrava since 2008 and attracts thousands of spectators each year; for the 2026 season, organizers expect attendance exceeding 18,000 visitors. The seating is located in the lower part (arena) of Silesian Ostrava Castle and offers VIP zones, boxes, zones 1–3 with armchairs, and zone 4 with benches. The grounds feature restrooms and refreshment stands. Tickets are available through the Ticketmaster network. Performances are not cancelled in advance even in case of negative weather forecasts – any cancellation decision is made no earlier than the scheduled start time.
