Schools – How to Look at a Painting?
Šternberský palác, Prague
100 Kč / osoba, 2 pedagogové free
This programme is designed for first-time gallery visitors and introduces students to the fundamental formal elements of painting – composition, colour, light, space, movement, and proportion – and their evolution through the Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. Beyond formal analysis, the programme also traces the development of themes and artistic techniques. The programme takes place in the exhibition space in a dialogical format and is supplemented by reproductions and models of selected artefacts from world museums; students classify the presented examples into stylistic periods.
Educational programme contributes to achieving these learning outcomes:
- Gaining a basic understanding of the historical, social, and religious foundations of European historical styles.
- Familiarization with terms describing artistic expression (colour, central and atmospheric perspective, compositional order, colour harmony, optical illusion, modelling, etc.) and content (iconography, attributes, vanitas, etc.).
- Ability to classify an artwork into a stylistic period based on fundamental formal and content characteristics.
